Wakrah is an old fishing village situated about 15 km south of Doha, which is undergoing rapid development. This has necessitated the development of the road network and other infrastructure services. The project caters for the requirements of two main residential areas in Wakrah, east and west of the Wakrah Main Road.
GEIC was appointed by RD-MMAA to provide professional consultancy services for the project. The scope of work comprises detailed design for all the roads inside the project area.
Area WM1 has different developmental characteristics. It is a predominantly residential area. The southern half of Area WM1, is the old town of Wakrah, which is characterised by narrow streets and low walled plots. The northern half is comparitively well laid out, with considerable new construction coming up in the northernmost part.
Area WM3 is under development, the roads are mostly unpaved .Utility networks are under construction.

During the planning stages of the project GEIC were responsible for traffic studies, services investigation, geotechnical investigation and topographic survey, which were carried out by approved sub-consultants. The Road Corridor Plan was developed from Road Network Plan and cadastral and policy data received from the Planning Department.
Data from these studies were used to arrive at optimum road and storm water drainage designs. It was observed that due to the existence of enclosed basins, a positive surface water drainage system needs to be provided for some areas. The road design proposed was a well developed road network comprising local distributors, major accesses and minor accesses. The project is currently under preliminary design stage.
